I believe they've said it's bigger. There's also an option to have it randomized and blinded (you only get to see what a tech leads to once you've researched it).

Not much of a fan of randomized tech trees since it can limit you on your preferred way of playing but Erik did say it was an option so there is that. It's one of the few things I disliked about master of orion.

This is an option you can play your way (well the one you prefer).

Actually quite happy about the more "randomized" research tree myself. One thing I'm worried about, at least based on what we saw from the stream, was the lack of a research "speed" option in the start-up screen. I always enjoyed playing games with slower research speeds, and hope it's still an option by release.

This might have something to do with balance a well. I tend to agree with you. More options and freedom of customization means more opportunity for different play feel.

There are actually options going from: Very slow, slow, normal, fast and very fast.

Really? Perhaps I missed it. Erik skimmed by the screens so quickly!

I love the random/blind research.

It works perfectly with the fact we have a private sector in the game. We can fund research, giving bonuses to what areas of science we prefer but then it's up to our scientists. A great immersive touch where a single leader of an empire isn't micromanaging everything.
