Time for AllenK and I to go head to head again. I've played a couple of other games as the Axis and so have had a chance to look at how other people play the Allies. There are a couple of things I am going to try as a result of those games - let's see how they pan out!!

The poor Poles. The only chance to see most of these units.... Shame there's not a counter for the Polish Navy.

The Chinese...

Turn 1 + Turn 2
1 - 15 September 1939

The Pomorze Army and three of the four independent cavalry corps are destroyed.

The Polish response is as follows:
I. Polish bombers try and attack German panzers southwest of Warsaw but achieve little.
II. The Narew Corps heads north to attack German bombers - with limited success.
III. The Polish mechanised corps attacks the Slovak unit and inflicts 2 points of loss
IV. The Karpaty Army inflicts some loss on the XVIII Corps
V. The Modlin and Poznan armies are ordered to conduct a pincer against von Kuchler, although the rewards are slim.

Hengyang immediately comes under threat, but the Japanese dish out pain liberally along the line, forcing the Chinese to spend points on replacements.

The British order the BEF to France and the USSR decide to take advantage of the secret protocol within the NS Pact and invade Eastern Poland. Er guys... we are supposed to be on the same side....

At the end of the turn:

- The Canadians join the war (and the convoys are immediately attacked)
- The US give aid to China
- The British do the right thing and don't declare war on behalf of India.

The Poles are no more. Meanwhile, in Southern China, XXX Corps holds on...just....

Meanwhile, in the North Sea, a British task force stumbles across a German Heavy Cruiser squadron and despatch the latter to the watery depths.

Another tough day at the office for the Chinese.

XXII Corps, southeast of Changsha is the next victim of the Japanese onslaught. I have no reinforcements this turn either.

I make a massive mistake - buying an army with the British, thinking it was the Chinese.... at this stage of the game that is really unhelpful.

Meanwhile a cat and mouse battle start to rage in the North Atlantic...

The third u-boat wolfpack - or maybe surface ships - cause some damage to my convoys.

1st Army is brought in to defend the river line and 4th Army in Changsha is reinforced, having taken a hit last turn.... I need Changsha to hold.

Annoyingly my carrier can't launch its aircraft and once again I fail to inflict much damage on the German subs... The 12th Cruiser Squadron then runs into a fresh wolfpack and gets mauled.

At least the subs actively looking for the RN means the convoys are less affected.

A very disappointing turn in China as 4th Army is destroyed and Changsha falls. I have nothing to replace this with and so Xue's forces remain on the river line and hope that entrenchment helps.

Frustration levels off the chart.... The 12th Cruiser Squadron is destroyed by u-boats. I set out a revenge mission, only to see the one wolfpack I found, survive by 1 point. The same happens in the North Sea where a pocket battleship unit is found but the Home Fleet can't destroy it by 1 point.

The 12th Cruiser Squadron's sacrifice was not entirely in vain as the convoys are kept safe for another turn.
