since both versions of SPWAW are getting face lifts...there will one for 7.X and one for H2H 2.0
As for M4's...sorry.

So far as I know (and still researching) there was no armor involved in the fighting for Attu.

Awww. But I think I remember hearing there was no armor, too. A unit trained in Death Valley was diverted up there, to face Hokkaido regulars. But I had to ask, due to my affiliations.

According to my source, there was definitely no armor on Attu:
[Mitchell, Robert G.: The Capture of Attu, page 4:]
"In the latter part of December a force composed of units of the 7th infantry Division, then commanded by Major General Albert E. Brown, was finally selected. The main force consisted of the 17th and 32d Infantry regiments, two battalions of Field Artillery (105mm.), and the 50th Engineers, to wich were added suitable numbers of medical units and other supporting and service troops."
According to Mitchell, the 7th Infantry division was trained in California with the intention to be used in North Africa, and it did not receive the warm clothing nessecary for operations in Alaska.
At another point, he explicitely tells that mechanized warfare was impossible on Attu.
Anyway, it looks like a very interesting campaign......
Will there be a defensive scenario putting the US force against the last suicide charge of the Japanese troops on Attu at the end of the campaign?
Roland
Oh yes...

that will be one of the BIG scenarios...the fight at "Engineer Hill".
Your research mirrors my own in regard to AFV's and even regular wheeled transport on Attu. Soon after the landings it was found that even the famous jeeps and duece and half's could not cope with the terrain of the island. Pack mules were actually the best non-human method of transporting supplies over the rocky, bog covered land.

A buddy's father-in-law moved in with him a couple years ago; he was in the Army Signal Corps and was stationed in the Aleutians. He told me the weather there was "inhuman"...and this comes from a guy who spent his working years as a Chicago fireman. I figure if he says its worse to be bundled up and dry in the Aleutians, than soaking wet in the dead of a Chicago winter, it must be a pretty brutal place.
