4.2.2 (Debug). Still Getting UAC Message.

Anyone else (still) getting the "User Account Control" warning message with version 4.2.2 (debug) on startup?

I know it's far from fatal but it's irritating as heck. Is it possible to get rid of it?

I don't get the UAC warning message when I run version 3.2.0. So it has to be something that was done between version 3.x.x & version 4.x.x that's causing it.

I am getting it every time, although I am not yet updated to 4.2.2 , but for me it's not so important, it happens with most of my games. In fact, I thought it was because of some windows security feature.

Right-Click the MWIF.EXE file and select Properties.

Then select the Compatibility tab.

Image

If "Run this program as an administrator" is ticked, untick it, click Apply, then OK.

Now check and see if MWIF runs ok.

Sorry to resurrect a dead thread, but I have been getting the User Account Control message every time I start MWiF. I did have "Run this program as an administrator" checked, but unchecking it (and restarting my computer) did not cause the UAC message to go away. Anyone have any ideas about how to fix it (barring nuking UAC completely, which strikes me as a bad idea)? I am running Windows 11 Home.

How do you actually run the program? By double clicking on the shortcut? If so, try right click once of the shortcut and then select run as administrator, following which you'll be asked by WIN11 to allow (or not). But, of course, allow to run.

Yes, I double click on the shortcut.

If I click on "Run as Administrator", I get the UAC message, and when I try it again, I still get the UAC message.

My goal is to drive a stake through the heart of the UAC message.

I certainly can understand that.

What folder is MWIF installed. If it is the default location of "C:\Program Files (x86)\Matrix Games\World in Flames\" then that might explain the behavior you are experiencing.

Try re-installing the game under it's own folder eg. "C:\World in Flames\" or "C:\games\World in Flames\", just keep it away from either of the "C:\Program Files.." folders. You still will most likely need to untick the "Run as Administrator" box as per above.

Oh, and don't just move the folder! That wont cut it, you need to uninstall, and then reinstall into the new location. Doing it this way the Windows registry entries get updated correctly, and more importantly, the file security will be set differently.

Brian.
