Can someone tell me what that "hairpin highway" down the
Vietnamese Highlands is supposed to be? The Ho Chi Minh Trail?
Got to check my maps to be sure, but as I recall what infrastructure the French built in Indo-China was pretty much coastal, with inland transport primarily by river,. A lot of what's
on the map shown doesn't look right at all.

I agree with Mike, I dont want to nit pick a Alpha map, but I have to assume one reason to post them other than to wet our apetite is to critique it.

That being said, whats that major highway down the east coast of Malaya? In reality, there were good roads on the west coast but practically nothing on the east. Thats why the 25th Army had to land so far north, to cut across the Krau Ismus and drive down the west coast. That highway from Khoto Bahru, will make it too easy for the Japanese to make a beeline to Singapore. At the very most it should be a trail not major road.

The railroad down the middle of Malaya is accurate, just curious how rail movement is going to be handled in the game.

Timjot pointed out another one that had caught my attention
as well. The East Coast of Malaya is as much as anything a swamp, recieving 100's of inches of rain a year. The West coast
is in the "rain shadow" of Sumatra, and much drier. Virtually all
development and infrastructure was along the West Coast---
so what is this "US 1" down the East side?

Can you use barges to move troop/supplies through rivers?

I love that on the screen shot there is Hong Kong Fort! Apparently fortifications are in, thought they may be truly ineffective, it will be cool to have them. I also love the Ice Cap shown on the second screen shot.

Because of the combat system, the effect rivers have is when you cross them. Your disruption and fatigue goes up if you cross somewhere other than a crossing.

Just in case that is not what you were asking, try this - there are curently no river boats and no movement alomg rivers except at specialy designate places, like near ports.

Yes those are zones that you can assign to the computer. Lets say you don't want to bother with the Chinese, you can let the computer control them for you.
