Question from someone who does not have a clue

Hi all!

Gonna buy this game when it comes out this summer so I just have a simple question. Keep in mind that I have not tried the old free version yet.

If I want to play against the AI, which is the only way I'll play this game, will there be ready single battles or a battle/map generator that gives me a different battle each time? Also is there a linked scenario campaign vs the AI? (these questions are about the upcoming game not the freeware version)

Ah newbie questions over:)

Cheers
Dan

You can play against the AI in a variety of random ways - games in which both your and the AIs titans are randomly chosen from your database, in which you can choose the weight class of titans, as well as if it will be a duel with single titans, or control a whole team of them. In these and any other games, you can also choose which map style you want, or have it picked randomly. Each map is generated randomly based on the style you choose and the terrain features.
You can also play games in which you create your own squad of titan jocks and fight them against random enemy titans. These squads will start out with low levels and skills and grow as you fight with them.
There will also be campaign missions for WS, in which you play your squad in a pre-created map with a specific end goal.

Not that the single player game isn't good, but you really ought to think about playing it online against human opponents, though. It's far more fun.

Both of your questions can be answered with : YES

TOS: WS single player (called solitary game) can be played with various different map/opposition settings as well as in mission/campaign mode. There are three campaigns with 7 maps each + some stand alone missons + unlimited random maps with 5 different map types (terran, savannah, polr, core, biochem) + map editor.

Enough for 50+ hours to bring your team from 3 small recon (40t) titans with rookie jocks to a full grown 8 titan team of assaults (200t) with expert jocks.

This game will provide massive single player playtime + the choice to play netgames if you choose.

Thank you very much guys:) Good answers that makes the game look even better from my viewpoint. I do know it would be more fun playing against a human but my online gaming is limited due to testing for Matrix and playing WW2 wargames via PBEM turns.

Cheers

Well, if you ever do get the time, I highly suggest checking out at least one netgame. As I'm sure you know, playing the AI is never the same as facing a real, human opponent.

I have a friend who loves these kind of MechWarrior things and I'm sure he would like to play some hotseat over a few beers....just have to practise against the AI first so that I can beat him:)

With Warring Suns, that might actually work. The AI is far tougher in WS than it was in the freeware ToS. Especially when you're first starting, make sure to keep the AI at the lowest level of skill for a good long time. Otherwise, expect to lose titans and/or jocks. :)

Oh I'll keep it real LOW, thanks for the advice:)

You should also remember to save your game. Often.

There is an autosave. But it doesn't always choose the most optimum place.

I believe that the great american aviator Claire Chennault says it best:

'If you take the best characteristics of your own plane and fight with them, never letting the enemy fight with the best characteristics of his plane, then you can lick him!'

Just substitute Titan-AT for plane.

The game also comes with a decent tutorial map and pdf manual that will help you learn the ropes.

Alrighty then, I'm definitely ordering this as soon as the MG online store comes back up. I really need to stop reading this forum though, I don't think I can wait for two+ more weeks.

I figured I might be able to burn myself out if I just went back and played 1.4 for a few consecutive hours. Several days later I've discovered this method has done nothing to curb my enthusiasm at all. Quite the contrary, in fact.

In closing, I'd just like to add: ARRRGH!!! Finish now! I pay! Ship me! :D

You don't really have to know every little detail to get into the game. You can start playing right away using the tutorial.
It will show you the necessary controls.
