Moving HQ stacked with combat units

When selecting all the units in a hex and and moving them multiple hexes, the game moves the units one at a time. If one of the selected units is an HQ and the game moves it last, it can become stuck due to adjacent enemy units. Since undo is frequently unavailable, this leaves the HQ hung out to dry.
The units could be moved one hex at a time as a workaround, but it would be nice if either the units could truly move together rather than one at a time or if the user interface would not allow a multi-hex movement that the HQ would not be allowed to execute.
I'm curious if other players have encountered this and maybe have other suggestions. Maybe I'm just doing it wrong.
