Abandoning Med for French Morale

Got the message about losing French morale for abandoning posts in the Med.
the rules are below but yet I moved the garrison from Oran to right beside Algeries, moved out the guy in Tunis and Damascas corps moved to the coast (right beside Damascus still), no other changes, and yet it still fired. Seems to directly contradict the rules. Was there a patch that changed this? Anyone know what conditions must be met to prevent the firing of this?
Additionally, France or the UK will suffer National Morale penalties for abandoning any of their respective
locations, at 500 points a turn. It is therefore strongly recommended that units remain in each of these locations.
In practice as long as there is an Allied unit within 5 hexes of Algiers, Damascus and Alexandria then these
particular locations won’t trigger any National Morale penalties or reaction from Italy.

I thought that you need to keep the guy in Tunis rather than Algeria

Tunis rather than Algiers is one of the triggers.
Can I ask where you've quoted this from as the in game Pop Ups and Strategy Guide all reference Tunis?
Edit: I can see where this is from now, apologies as the current Strategy Guides do incorrectly refer to Algiers rather than Tunis. I had already corrected this in a new section on Italian Mobilization for the Strategy Guides, which is why only when I looked at an older version could I see what you were referring to.
Additionally, in the new patch there will be text on the map to highlight the locations where units need to be kept in the Mediterranean to prevent a drop in National Morale.

ah cool, so the French cities in question are Tunis and Damascus and ANY allied unit within 5 hexes (or has to be land/air unit? do UK units count?)

One consideration is I believe UK units in French territory surrender when France surrenders.
@Bill - is that always the case or RNG?

Yes, it doesn't matter what nationality they are as the engine is just looking for an Allied land or air unit.

Yes, if Vichy is formed then the units will be interned and lost.
