Problems launching a new mod in PBEM

Hi - I am testing out a small mod for the first time with Old Crow but we are having difficulties launching it to play via PBEM. I transferred the files to him successfully and he is now running the mod on his computer in SP mode. But when either of us Host a Challenge in PBEM using this mod, the game shows "red" in Challenges box and neither of us can join the challenge.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what the glitch might be and how we can resolve this?

Many thanks in advance,

Michael

I reinstalled the mod...it works great in a SP test. And its brilliant by the way mdsmall. I hosted again and its up on the server...don't know why we can't connect the last time. Lets see what happens!

Here's a screen shot of the file locations. btw..I have steam running also..don't know if thats a problem but I never had the red bar of 'not same version' or what ever its been saying on the pbem++ server.

PBEM++ Screen

We both have the mod Balkan Variation. It works and runs great on my machine. The same for mdsmall. But we can't seem to mesh for a kumbaya in Europe in 1914.

I'm at a loss......[&:]

So, my understanding is that the mod on both machines (to read as 'the same version'), needs to be in the Campaigns folder..not the Mod folder...or, that's what I have read. If either party has their mod in the Mod folder, the Slitherine PBEM++ server won't recognize the mod we both have as 'identical', even though it is.

Maybe I am wrong about this..but reading many threads about this problem we are having and the instructions I have read seem to indicate that if either party places the mod in the Mod folder, even while it may work on their machine entirely fine, if the other party has it in the Campaigns folder, as I have done...and it works fine for SP, it won't work on the server.

We will figure this out. Below is another image of where my files are located...

Michael has emailed me about this, and so when he's sent me the latest version of the campaign I'm going to try setting up a challenge and see if we can get it working.

This is exactly where I put these mod files. The newest version works (1914 Balkan Variations)..scripts fire at the end of the first turn for both sides perfectly,(CP-AH 2nd Army DEC deployment to Serbia or Galicia) and ENT-FR Paris 2 corp deployment. I turned off Blue Max mod parts I was using (Sound Files, Research and Toolbar background), using vanilla map and vanilla NATO counters.

Still no sync with Slitherine PBEM++ Server...though we did get the server to sync before with an old version of this mod..but Michael said the CP-AH 2nd Army DEC deployment script did not fire.

Is this a correlation...e.g. the above example of when the PBEM++ server did work?

I am totally at a loss...but can only see my end on my machine.

Hmmmmm........

Hey mdsmall..I mailed you this image right above...but decided to post it here also...1914 Balkan Variations works excellent..did a three turn hotseat both sides...still not understanding the server issue...since we had it working on there..twice.

Something under the hood of one of our machines isn't quite right haha... growl..[:@]

Hi - working with a tip from Bill, plus considerable trial and error on our part, we figured it out.

The problem was that an older version of the mod saved somewhere on my computer was triggering the PBEM system not to recognize a challenge from Old Crow, even though he was using the version of the mod that I had just sent him. Bill tells me he has encountered this before.

I was able to solve this by simply saving the mod (both the pdf file and the associated folder) to a memory stick; then deleting the files for the mod from my User Campaign folder; then deleting them again from the Recycling Bin: and then saving the mod files back again into the User Campaign Folder. Once that was done, the PBEM system immediately accepted Old Crow's challenge.

I hope this might be of help to others!

Best regards,

Michael
