guns and turrets

You know I was once fairly active here but for some reason I never did get around to asking this. What do the 'guns' and 'turrets' represent to the game engine? What's the best way to design a fiction ship regarding guns and turrets?

Lets take a look at an Iowa class BB

Iowa has 9x16in guns for main armament
Num tab is amount of total guns in a section of the ship(6) , Turrets tab is amount of guns in a single turret (3). So its quite simple

Oh!!! All this time I was reading that as 6 guns in 3 front facing turrets and 3 guns in 3 rear facing turrets, which I knew was laughably wrong. LMAO, wow, how did I miss that? Thanks again : )

I had the same confusion on this point when I started modding. There's a pdf manual for the scenario editor in the game files and it's got a lot of good information.

I found that whenever I work on ship classes, I need to have the manual's explanation of turrets and guns-per-turret open for quick reference.
