Naval Patrol

Gary Grigsby’s War in the West 1943-45 is the most ambitious and detailed computer wargame on the Western Front of World War II ever made. Starting with the Summer 1943 invasions of Sicily and Italy and proceeding through the invasions of France and the drive into Germany, War in the West brings you all the Allied campaigns in Western Europe and the capability to re-fight the Western Front according to your plan.

Followed the tutorial and he managed level of 9. During my last failed attempt at this game in 2017 I also acheived nearly this level of interdiction. Now I'm lucky to get 4?

Here's one of the air directives I'm using, the other is simialr but during the enemy air phase. I've tried adding more aircraft, change the strike numbers and anything else I can think off but never anything above 4.

Looks like you only have one group assigned to a 5 area directive. Probably can't cover it all and be effective. Try adding more air groups.

I did say I'd 'tried adding more aircraft'.

My bad, just looked at the screenshot and assumed it was the try that produced the screenshot in the post above.

well you are asking not many planes to cover a large area.

Few things:

1) a ratio of 4/0 is fine for the purpose
2) If you need more planes grab the Wellingtons and use the mine loadout
3) why friendly phase only - you risk getting cut off during your logistics phase, for this type of mission you really need both phases - its the axis who can opt in/out of phases.

To add to what Loki wrote, someone else on this forum said they had best success with a single strike rather than multiple ones. I then set the "Req AC" to 2/3 of the total available number of AC from the group(s) assigned, in order to give some AC a rest each day. So in the screenshot you showed as an example, I'd set Strikes = 1 and Req AC = 26.

I agree with Loki to have them run in both phases.

Also make sure you're flying Air Superiority over the same hex area, to interfere with the Axis NP's. And bomb the ports you don't want to immediately capture so they're not casting their own interdiction points into the hexes near them.

But all that said, an interdiction level of 5 is fine. If your interdiction exceeds the Axis level by 2 or more, you're good. I don't know how you could get level 9 naval interdiction, particularly in the first turn of the game, without some turns for it to build up.

Thanks (and Loki)

I'll reiterate 'Here's ONE of the air directives I'm using, the other is simialr but during the enemy air phase.'

I did first try a single strike but got this sort of result. The only thing I've not done for the AD is set the req AC. I'll try that and the other two tips as well.

Beginning to think some of the older guides/tutorials need to be updated however they are still useful, just not complete.
