Amphib forces embedding

8th Dec full war scenario. Now getting to stage when my first APAs and AKAs as well as LST start appearing in numbers. I have read all the suggestions of having multiple TFs in the same hex with follow orders and a distance of 0, with ASW TF leading etc. I understand the logic behind that and am setting up TFs that way for my first trial run at an amphibious assault.

So reading back on other people's experiences, they talk about embedding M/S in the Amphib TF as well as DDs etc. Now I think I understand that a dedicated ASW TF will actively hunt SS and if necessary, go out of their way to do so. Whereas ASW Equipped ships in a cargo TF for instance, will use their ASW capabilities to drive off and hopefully kill enemy SS but they will remain with the CARGO TF and follow its route to its destination.

Now looking at a M/S Tf. A dedicated one will sweep the allocated area all the time. Does this mean a M/S TF really should be separate from the Amphib TF and lead it in or can they still do their job while embedded in the Amphib TF? From the suggestions, I am not really clear on this.

All ships can sweep mines it is just that some do it the hard way. [:-]

My understanding is that the MS will sweep mines in any TF, I have seen DDs sweep 1 or 2 with no MS in the TF.

Yes, MS in an Amphib TF will sweep mines to a certain extent, but there is no guarantee they will get them all.

But a separate MS TF usually gets targeted by any coastal or DP guns that the enemy has, so most players try to use a MS TF composed of DMS which are larger and faster than AMs and the like, so they are more survivable.

Any ASW capable ship that detects a sub and has ammo will try to attack the sub, and then return to the assigned mission.
