May I add to the general choir singing happy birthday Finland?

And may I call your attention that today is the anniversary of the current Spanish democratic Constitution?

A great double Bank Holiday!

G.K. Zhukov: Thanks for enlightening. I didn't know it. As you said:
"A great double Bank Holiday!"

So we'll have to play Spain scenarios too today to remember : )

Red Baron: Those who couldn't help are forgiven. I've noticed that none of finns have thought of putting sticks under their fingernails. Us wanted to help more than they did, but they had sort of agreement with Sovjet, same thing was with numerious countries. Germans allthought helped us by supplying guns and infantry weapons. Ans we at winter war were made history, if all the willing forces had helped us, it's not samekind thing to be proud of. Winter war did unite finns in the way Stalin couldn't think, so after war it was one nation in hearts.

Happy Birthday. You guys have a lot to be proud of. I'm just curious how you celebrate. We are fortunate enough to celebrate our independence in the middle of the summer. It must be awfully cold to have parades and such in FInland in December.

Actually, we have (unusually) pretty warm weather here now Image

(5 deg celsius / 41 deg Fahrenheit)

Some windy weather, but so far - no snow.
Where I live, we have usually snow during december, but now we have got none.

Must be because of that increasing greenhouse effect..... Image

Happy Birthday Suomi.
Like a lot of Americans of Finnish descent, I fly the flag this week. I remember the first time I did this in Las Vegas, someone asked if it was the RUSSIAN flag. (Not a lot of Finns in Sin City apparently). My great uncle must have spun in his grave...Anyway, I'll force myself to have an olut or two in celebration.

Happy Birthday!
I have some Finnish ancestors, but they left in the 17th century, for Norway.

Happy Birthday Suomesta !!!
To some of the bravest warriors and their leader Gustav Mannerheim, one of this century's true military geniuses.

Over the years, I have spent numerous all-niters defeating the Russians deep in
the Karelian forests......what could be better than a suomi smg and a pair of skis!

Read "A Frozen Hell" by William Trotter and see the movie "The Winter War" and you to will choose to lead the Finns into battle.

Freedom and indepence forever,

Wolf

Not to nitpick, but during the Winter War
the Germans confiscated military equipment
(kindly donated by Italy) en route to
Finland. They had an... understanding with
the Soviets in this regard.

Independence Day without snow is a scandal. I have read from somewhere that in next century there won't be any snow at all in South Finland during "winter". Temperature would at the same level as now in Poland. I think I have to move to Lapland Image
