GAMEY OR NOT

I've played a couple of games against the AI and I've noticed that a wounded Carrier task force will cause itself more damage by reacting to enemy fleet movements on an enemy turn while in fleet mode (5 hexes away )because it is on patrol. This allows other fleets to swoop in and the wounded TF still continues to attack rather than run since Naval combat almost always occurs for fleets on patrol (different spot matrix). Note: The fleets sweeping in and using their two OP points just to engage the patrolling CV fleet can be in raider mode also.
In reality, the wounded CV TF would make a run for it.
So would this be considered gamey in a PvP game if you were to use this strategy?
IMO I'd like to see if a CV task force suffers 1/4+ strength point loss in a fleet action(just counting CVs) then it would automatically change to raider mode to prevent other fleets from taking advantage of it being currently on patrol. This would force the enemy to have to attack the CV task force rather than have it react to your movements.

Interesting...I like that idea..
Yes the issue is using a fleet to draw out the attack is a little gamey but not above and beyond.
I do this sometimes to see if air is going to attack my transports. This game though it is not a 100% think that they will "respond" as it was in WPE...and that can catch you offguard.
I think of it as someone reports seeing ships offshore and they launch to intercept. Not sure any base would tell their pilots...well wait for the CVs to get close.
Kind of the same for ships...
They detect ships...not sure how many or what until they attack them...

I know exactly what you mean.
I consider this one of the issues with using fleets. As the player you need to be aware that if you run your fleet out of operation points it is going to get stuck. So, in PVP, I do not believe it is gamey.
The issue comes when you consider the AI. The AI isn't smart enough so if the AI takes a fleet and moves it where it can be attacked, after it has used all its operation points, I would have to think about it. On the other hand perhaps the AI is only set to do this in certain situations.
What I do consider gamey is when you know where an enemy fleet is so you send out small DDs to use all of that specific fleets interceptions so you can then attack it. VS the AI it is gamey. VS another player....still think it is gamey, but of both play that way...just need to come to an agreement.

Well the enemy will still defend...just not intercept.
It gets gamey when you run some destroyers by...probably get sunk...then can invade with transports.
Then again that is what anyone would / should to. Send in the battle fleet first then the transports.
Though sending a ship on a known suicide mission...that seems off

I think everything is fair game at the moment. There's definitely some oddities in the combat system that might be ripe for exploitation but no-one really knows if the gimmicks are a good idea most of the time until they're tested more.
