Model-Tech relationship

Hi,

I am not sure, this is a bug, but... how exactly is the relationship between model and technology supposed to work? I thought, that I first need to discover tech, than fully researched it and only after that I should be able to discover model derived from that tech and so on. In my recent game I am fielding RPG battalions, but I have only disovered RPG, not researched it. It seems like RPG models and RPG technology are fully disconnected from each other. Or is there some benefit to RPGs if I research them?

The disconnect between models and technology in my game goes the other way around (fully researched quad MG, but dont have option to design model, as the model wad not discovered). But this way it makes at least some sense. But fielding models without the technology doesn´t feel right. Is this a bug or feature?

Thanks for a reply. I hope the info is not in the manual. I swear I read it dozen times...

Regards,
Zdenek

P.S. Such a GREAT game!!! Keep up the good work!

You start off with bazooka tech, which is enough to research the "rpg" model. The rpg tech itself is an upgrade.

Look at the design of your unit and you will see the weapon it uses.

Thanks for clarification. So it is basically an unfortunate case of homonymy in designing game menu :) In the model screen it should read on the left side something like hand-held antitatnk or grenade launchers or something like that.

Never mind, I was just worried that I am cheating the game using a bug, you know - and if I wanted an easy game, I would not play SE in the first place...

The Manual under "Callibre calculation" calls it a "Hollow Charge Weapon".
This might be a good umbrella term.

Yeah, "RPG" is the name of both a tech, a weapon and a reinforcement type. The model type is called "Bazooka".

(Another example : the reinforcement type "heavy tank" has model types "heavy tank" and "monitor tank" (and IIRC also "tank destroyer" ?))

But it gets worse : one of the random model names available for the Bazooka model type is called... "Rocket Launcher" ! (Which, if you forgot, is also the name of a completely different model type...)
