Did you know this was happening? Your neighbors (those who don't have an internet connection will be able to share your internet service (to purchase things from Amazon) when you are not online.

By default, Amazon devices including Alexa, Echo, Ring, security cams, outdoor lights, motion sensors, and Tile trackers will enroll in the system. And since only a tiny fraction of people take the time to change default settings, that means millions of people will be co-opted into the program whether they know anything about it or not. The Amazon webpage says Sidewalk "is currently only available in the US."

You will automatically be added to this experiment unless less you opt out. You won't know its happening. You must go into default settings to opt out. By June 8th.

Good thing I don't use any of those Amazon products.[8D] You should see how much of your data an apple or google android phone collects.

....

This is not the case. It does not enable someone to purchase from Amazon on your internet. What is does do is enable very specific Amazon devices such as security cameras to keep connected to their servers if a neighbours own internet goes down. But you would also need to be using Amazon devices (such as an Echo) yourself in the first place.

I agree that this should not be automatic but be opt-in, but then if you are at all privacy conscious you shouldn't have an Echo in the first place.

just go into the alexa app to settings, find "Sidewalk", and turn it off.
