I heard a rumour that Distant Worlds 2 was slated for either a June or July release - and then I heard a rumour a while later that release was delayed. Itching to get my hands on this title, it is highly anticipated, so wondering when we might expect it to hit the store so the wallet can be opened?

The only hard info we have is that once they are done with the internal testing and final quality of life passes then it will be released. Since they just started closed beta testing and they anticipate several waves of testing and afaik they are still on the first or second wave then it would be a safe bet it will either be a late holiday release or early 2022.

They didn't "just started closed beta testing". They have been at it for more than 5 months, just look at the "Distant Worlds 2 Beta Recruitment Now Closed" thread.

They still got heaps of issues from closed beta testing so imo it's simply not ready yet.

The fact there isn't a wink of any marketing around this game kinda implies that opinion.

There was barely a wink of marketing at all with DW1. Same with the expansions.

You are probably right, they ether have a ton of issues or some mechanic didn't resonate well with the beta community and they are fixing it.
Or... they are reimplementing orbiting planets and its just taking them a while to do it. [:D]

Why all these wild guesses when there are literally zero information or evidence either way?!?

The only thing we know is that the Beta started a few months ago and they have said that the game are to be released sometimes this year if things goes according to plan.

That is it, that is all we know...

So basically they preliminary said around July... which obviously would not be odd if it slip a few months as is common for most release schedules of most games. So sometimes late summer or early fall at the earliest is my guess from that information.

As far as I know there is no information available about the beta testing or how that progress in any detail.

Jorgen_CAB is probably not far off. 40k battlesector was scheduled for a May release when that video was done. The official release is now set for July 15 which is a couple of months delay. I would not be surprised if DW2 slipped 2-3 months. Gods would I love a July release though.

I'm no beta tester but from what i saw so far the game is close to finish. That said, I hope they fix the issue causing ships to wiggle at a set distance from a stationary target - like a station- while firing at it. Looks quite jarring.

My 50% coupon will be coming in July. I hope this is out by early August.
