Custom Formation - how to pure Mechanized Quad MG?

I'm tinkering around with customized formations, but I can't figure how to create an OHQ formation of only Mechanized Quad MG, like the standard Light armor brigade formation consisting of 270 light armor tanks only.
The only thing I can do is add units, which is nice, but that won't let me create a pure mechanized Quad MG OOB.
Am I missing something or is this impossible?

It's not possible within the OOB system. The best you can do is raise a formation with MGs, not produce the portion that consists of Infantry, and tweak the quality settings so Infantry models are only Tolerated for that formation so it won't bring them in as replacements. Note that foot formations have to have Infantry in the OHQ unit, so don't accidentally disband your OHQ. If the OHQ takes losses, you'll have to give it replacements manually.

Too bad, but still an interesting workaround. Instead of creating Mechanized Quad MG starting from infantry formation, I could start with light armor brigade as well and just tolerate light tanks in them, if I'm not mistaken? And if the OHQ unit keeps light tanks so be it, as they won't do any heavy lifting anyway.
All I'd have to do is keep customizing on the customized formation to get enough Mech Quad MGs in there, I guess? And then set the Light tanks to tolerated like you suggested.
Interesting solution, thanks!

Ah, sorry, I missed the part about them being mechanized quad MGs. Yeah, it works the same with any formation with multiple model types, other than that the model type you want to use exclusively must make up at least 50% of the formation's table of organization and equipment to enable raising it without the unwanted models.

Yeah, I was wondering, how do you tell apart :
- Mechanized Quad MG : Quad MG + APC
from
- Mechanized Quad MG : the unit type
?

Hehe I was asking myself the same question [:)]
Soar_Slitherine, your solution works if I keep adding different additions to the customized formation. But I can't add another Mechanized Quad MG once I already added them. And because Mechanized Quad MGs added to a formation don't make 50% of that brigade, I can't raise the formation.
But I assume I could raise it with the light tanks and then disallow the light tanks afterwards in the TOE? But even if that worked, I'd get a formation of 5 Battalions consisting of 30 Mechanized Quad MGs each, which is probably just as strong as a regular 50 light tanks brigade...
I'd love a simple Mechanized MG OHQ formation. [:(]
Is Vic the only solution to make this happen?

I don't understand that problem.
1. You can rise Mechanized Quad MG formation as (independent) battalion, regiment or division. So there can be lots of Quad MG in it.
2. You can also add Quad MG to another formation, rise it, then set other units to "disallow". For example: you can rise custom LT corps instead of brigade and there will be more Quad MG in it. If you will add Quad MG to custom light tanks, you will need enough LT in inventory to rise it. Then disallow LT and you have pure Quad MG formation.

"There is no such thing as a historically accurate strategy game."
If Poland 1939 is Dinosaur Riders with laser rifles against a Ratman Hero wielding a blessed warhammer that shoots fireballs ... we... would call that a "non historically accurate" World War 2 game.
