Artillery: self propelled or mechanized?

Are there obvious benefits of choosing self propeller artillery vs. regular artillery carried by armored (mechanized) transports

Seems that regular artillery + APC is a better, if more expensive, choice. It allows for bigger caliber sizes (without to worry about weight during designing) + the APC adds a machine gun if it is used during regular combat

thoughts? am I right?

Yep, you have it more or less right.

That, and artillery itself is of currently limited use in general. Past the earlier game, and mostly for defense against hordes, big honking armored and walker armies will steamroll everything without need of support.

The drawn artillery would still be more vulnerable to counter-artillery fire. Or Artillery duels.
But I am unsure how much that truly maters.

I remember seeing somewhere that Mechanized Artillery gets the HQ posture bonuses for mechanized forces, which means mechanized artillery can get extra attack from postures like blitzkrieg or elastic defense.

Ohhhh now that sounds like an army that I gotta try.
