Opening moves are encouraging for Soviet morale as there are no disastrous pockets to witness yet.
In the south German pincers are closing, but they look vulnerable.



Defenses are re-organized and Northwestern Front assume more responsibility for the line and defense of Rzhev.
Western Front is reconstituted with a focus on protecting Vyazma.
Reserve Front is pulled farther south to hold the approaches to Kaluga.
Bryansk Front is tasked to delay at Bryansk, but hold Orel no matter the cost.
2nd Cavalry Corps reports directly to STAVKA and coordinates an effort with Bryansk Front to break the supply lines of Panzer Group 2 formations.

Turn 2

Germans again fail to link up their pincers, and this time the Russians are able to slice through the salient of both thrusts, putting even more German mech out of supply at the end of the turn:



Depots are built wherever I can find an existing railyard close to the front. We park HQs here to boost the capacity and then recycle routed units through them on refit to try and get their replacements delivered. We're so battered that even sitting on depots some of the units get nothing. I will rail some units back to the NSS depots so they can get first crack at replacements and hopefully provide some TOE 85%+ units.

Turn 3

Panzers the south continue to find themselves in a Soviet furball and still can't gain operational freedom:

For some reason I'm missing the action from the worst of the rain, but mainly consolidation in the South as we were squeezed from Bryansk and Orel.

Turn 6 snow is falling and the Germans are trying to launch their last gasp offensive:

The German armor in the south moves forward to make contact, and the Soviets respond by closing in on their southern pincer to further restrict the flow of supplies:

Turn 8.

Northwestern Front steps back to a consolidated line that had been in preparation.
Intent is to free up a few formations, but also to sucker the Germans out of their foxholes so they will fill with snow until the blizzard arrives...

In the south Bryansk Front continues to spar with the panzers.

Turn 9.

The reinforcements have arrived. This party is just getting started.
