Application crash when connecting Multiplayer

My son and I are trying to set up a multiplayer game on our local network, but the game crashes on both sides after the Joiner clicks the "Join" button.
Game: Close Combat Modern Tactics, latest release (as of August 8, 2021)
OS: Windows 10, latest release (as of August 8, 2021)
Anti-Malware: McAfee LifeSafe
Allowed connection through firewall in McAfee for the program and also set up port forwarding (47264, 2300 to 2400).
I opened up ports on the router. We can ping each other just fine. When one of us hosts a game, the Joiner can find it but when he tries to connect the Host and Joiner applications crash.
To eliminate the router as a variable, we took them off of wifi and connected through a switch. Same exact result: pings just fine; searching and finds the hosted game; crashes when trying to join.
Anyone have an idea of what is going on here?

What is the error message that you see, if any?
Cheers

This seems to be the exact same problem as reported on the Steam forums.

The Joiner does not get an error message from the application. It just suddenly closes.
The Host application hangs for a little longer and then gets an error message. I will have to recreate it to get the message. After that it closes.
Windows event viewer gives these two errors:
Faulting application name: bad_module_info, version: 0, time stamp: 0
And...
The program Close Combat Modern Tactics.exe version stopped interacting with Windows and was closed. To see if more information about the problem is available, check the problem history in the Security and Maintenance control panel.

Have tested Multiplayer now and it does not work. One of two is happening when trying to connect to another player: 1. He cant see my hosted game or 2. When he was hosting I could see his game in the multiplayer screen, but it the game crashes the moment I try to join. - This was game-breaking bug was reported on Matrix forums back in April 21. Why was this not fixed in the patch that was just released? - Time to get it fixed as the strength of the CC games is in multiplayer.

One solution would be to make part of the game open source, so we can fix it ourselves and you still get the money for the game. This would give the CloseCombatSeries a new life and increase your revenues at the same time.

SchnelleMeyer (and any others who have had issues with Modern Tactics multiplayer) -- can you please verify if you have DirectPlay installed and enabled on your system? Windows 10 appears to disable legacy DirectPlay by default. The link below discusses how to check this. If you did not have it enabled, let me know if turning it on allows you to connect.

I had DirectPlay enabled Steve.
