I wonder if it is possible to include an option to switch sides in multiplayer?

Also I would very much like to be able to continue playing against the AI after opponent gives up.
Its dissapointing when you build up for a major offensive for weeks of your real time life and then the opponent concedes

Interesting ideas and I could certainly see the frustration in not being able to play out the turns.

It's unfortunately not an option at the moment as the campaign is essentially stripped of all AI elements to reduce the size for the PBEM server file transfers. So converting it to an AI game won't really work, even if after a player resigns to prevent possible cheating.

Could it be pulled down as a Hot Seat game?

That could be an option, I would add it to my list but I'll also be honest it would not be a top priority at the moment (unfortunately).
