Question about Advanced Fighter tech & Carriers

OK, so Advanced Fighter tech gives carriers +1 on both Attack and Defense against all land-based air (tho for some odd reason not against Kamikazies).
Land-based Fighters get a +1 bonus on defense against Carriers...
But Carriers DON'T get any sort of Advanced Fighter bonus against other Carriers, be it Attack OR Defense. Naval Weaponry DOES give Carriers +1 against other carriers, which makes sense to model bombing or torpedoing runs.
Any reason for no CV vs. CV bonuses here for AF? On a very closely related note, when exactly do Fighters (and Carriers in Fighter mode) use their Attack & Defense? Is Attack used in Interceptions, or in Escorting? Is Defense used only when strafed or bombed directly?

Hi
You are correct in that Carriers protection against attack by other Carriers doesn't improve with research.
There was a limit to the extent that their protection did improve during the war, and because this tech goes up to 5, even with 0.5 increments it would likely make Carriers too impervious to other air attacks. As a result, protecting Carriers means preventing the enemy's air force (whether land or seaborne) from attacking it.
Carriers in CAP mode's attacks on other Carriers don't improve either, because they represent the Fighter portion and wouldn't really have much effect (except perhaps as Kamikazes) against the Carrier itself.

Hi Elessar,
Just to add, if a Carrier attack in Fighter mode is intercepted, the defensive values are applied to the Carrier fighters when the interceptors attack. The interceptors will have their attack values applied.
Escorts will have their attack values applied, and then in this case the interceptors will have their defense values applied during the escort/interceptor combat, and then after any remaining interceptors will have their attack values re-applied for their attacks.
If a Carrier is attacked directly, without the Carrier fighters intercepting, or after the Carrier fighters have intercepted, then the Carrier defense values are applied.
Hopefully this all makes sense,
Hubert

Thanks. That is how I thought it worked, just was surprised double checking all of the vanilla tech upgrades that CVs didn't get any Fighter Tech bonus. For the moment I've gone with the Vanilla settings here.

Are you sure this is the case? I'm seeing much higher losses with carriers using fighter mode to recon being intercepted by enemy ground fighters. In this specific case, the carrier fighters were level 1 and the enemy ground fighters were level 2. This would seem to be then 2 defense for carrier fighters vs 2 attack from ground fighters but seeing more like 3 hits on the carrier fighters a 1 hit on the ground fighters instead of even trades.

The Fighters may well have HQ support too, which would affect the outcome.
It might be worth turning off fog of war temporarily (if playing the AI or testing in Hotseat mode) to check the exact circumstances.

Yeah, I checked the readiness and both the carrier and ground fighters were just over 100%.
