Are you successful with subs against surface warships? Carriers in particular.

All my attacks are usually ending into a disaster. I wonder if there is a particular tactic to put in place.

I will try to add the Torpedo specialty to one of my subs and see how it goes.
Anyone has already tried this?

I have tried on multiple occasions to use subs to get a hit on carriers with only 1 SP left. All failed miserably.

The tactic I saw someone use, which I say is the right way to do it, is to hammer a CV fleet with air power THEN hit it with subs. The subs tend to target damaged ships 1st with a pecking order of CVs on top.

16 CVs were sunk by sub in all of WW2. Not all were fleet CVs. A certain amount were also damaged or possible sunk by their own ships.

But a careful balance must be maintained as people can build ships as they like.

This was an issue with early versions of Axis and Allies. Subs were so cheep and so good compared to fleets they were the main unit build to kill fleets.

Very good point. I think the game is in a good place with this right now. I have only tried to use subs to sink a damaged CV a few times, all of which were after a fleet and LB air battle. They failed, but as long as there is a small chance of success then its a great trade off. Its worth taking a shot because the subs are easily replaceable. However the odds of success keeps the subs from being dominate in naval battles.

After many attempts, I can say that I have never managed to even do one damage point against a carrier inside a CV fleet.
Will go after MM now... [:D]

In my CV vs CV Take 2 round of CV tests, during 50 battles, one US submarine sank one Japanese CV.
