When I try to open the game the opening menu opens great. When I click "PLAY War in the Pacific A.E." it says cant set screen mode and closes. I know the game works best in 1024x768 but my computer runs in 3840x2160 by default. I went into my display settings to turn it down but the lowest resolution it lets me go is 1152x864. I saw someone make a fix for a similar problem by using target switches but I have the computer skills of a 70 year old grandpa so when I tried it I still got the same "can't set screen mode" message. I don't know if I did something wrong or if I need another fix. Any help would be great thanks.

If you have the game properly installed and patched with version 1126a or 1126b, you still have to set up switches to make your computer and associated hardware work with the old game engine and newer versions of Windows.

See the stickied thread about "Slow Performance" in this section where there are good explanations about what the switches do and how to set them up in a shortcut to the game executable file (NOT the Autorun.exe file shortcut that the game installs on your desktop).

You can also use the Seabee Utility to automate setting up the switches in the shortcut but you really should read about what the switches are for so you understand what you need to try.

Be aware that running the game full screen under Windows 10 requires a lot of tinkering that most of us find not worth the aggravation.
