Inclusion of this ship would horribly unbalance the game toward the American side (and unjustifiably gratify mdiehl, who is probably homosexual), because it will fly at 100 feet on a naval search mission and sink every Japanese ship above the size of a salad bowl while shooting down every Japanese fighter plane (including those that were superior to everything the Americans could field in 1945), while planting minefields that cannot be swept because of the dearth of geisha girls on Japanese minesweepers and kill tens of thousands of troops in strafing attacks on Japanese bases who could not escape because there are no vectors for assignment of search missions.

Oh. And the ship's captain will restrict the effectiveness of Betty and Nellie squadrons by forcing them to wear 34B bras, when what they obviously need is 36DDDs. And naval strikes will be recorded as spares at your local bowling alley, as well. Then, we can count on mogami to test everything and make it right, because mogami's mission in life, whether he ever wanted to or not, is to keep everybody happy.

Gawd, I'm sick of this sh1t.

As long as they had a reason and it wasnt just an oversight.

After the Marines and for the most part secured Guadalcanal,(and sustained high attrition through combat, lousy monsoon weather, and malaria)they were temporarily destroyed as a fighting unit,(effectively).
They were then relieved by the Army..
The soldiers relieving them came over on...the Calvin Coolidge...
Since the Coolidge sunk as soon as it got to the south Pacific,it might be forgiveable for not remembering it,but even it's singular accomplishment might be remembered by the Gyrenes who finally got to recoup....
My family had a lot of boys in that generation,so I had relatives in every theatre,(including on the Coolidge).

I would have thought that the CC was intentionally left out of the OOB as it's main use was carrying large numbers of troops between the USA's major ports and the main staging bases like Noumea and Luganville.

That would put it (operationally) outside the theatre represented in UV, even if it dropped in from time to time. Something has to bring in the troop reinforcements that arrive at Noumea in UV.

At 20,000+ tons, the converted liner was far larger than any of the APs and AKs and a big risk to try using it within the combat zone.

Well, ya do, Mog, and I for one am grateful for it. Without your sensible commentary, investigation, and testing, a lot of us whiners and wheezers would be completely - dare I say it? - at sea in UV.

So thanks for your efforts.

Hi, She begins the war in San Diego. None of these President class ships are in UV (for the reason stated above. They belong to higher HQ and deliver the combat units.)

By golly that's right!..See,my question was completely innocent(ignorant)..I had completely forgotten about the troops "magically" showing up in theatre!!(Further,I had no idea how big the Coolidge was...)..
My dad-in-law was on the Wakefield,(in Singapore when it was being bombed early December,1941,),and later on the Callaway(in UV)..If I ever needed an answer about the Matrix games, this is where I can get the answers..Thanks Drongo,Mogami......;)

Glad he made it through the chaos. The Wakefield and a few other transports did a sterling job in delivering troops and evacuating non-coms while under attack from the large daily air raids (although I thought that was in late Jan '42 - when the Wakefield was actually hit by a bomb in Singapore harbour).

Cheers

You may be right about the date(a months difference?).Tragically, the last assignment they were on (at that time),was delivery of Aussie troops and Brewster Buffalos(still in the box) to Singapore, just in time to be surrendered soon afterward.
I was able to purchase a copy of the history of the Wakefield on video,(aka the Manhattan in civilian life)..

I would think that would make her more memorable, but alas there was a good reason it is not included after all.
