General Quarters Sound

I first posted this sound in the forum about 8 months ago. Recently, I sent it to Spooky's site, where it can now be downloaded and enjoyed by those who did not get this sound the first time around.

It is a .wav file, and it will play a "General Quarters" sound whenever you start a new game or load a saved game of UV. It should add a bit more excitement to the game.

The easy instructions for its installation are included in a Readme in the zip file.

It can be found at Spooky's excellent site:

Cheers!

It also works great on my work computer to notify me when a high priority mail message comes in. Ain't no way you aren't going to know what that's about. Boss hears it and thinks you are really dedicated too!

Hehe

I'm surprised your fellow workers don't hit the deck when you play that sound. . . :D

Incoming!

I love that sound, have been using it ever since you offered it.
FWIW,during WW2,the navy also used to blow a bugle indicating GQ,I can't write music but it was "da-da-da-duh,dee dee dee duh".
Also, when the Hornet was sinking, instead of sounding "abandon ship",the skipper had the guys play a version of Kate Smith singing "The bear came over the mountain"..
Now,if you could somehow get those to play,(at the approprite times, for the approprite side???)...
:p

I guess I could stick in a bunch of unusual sounds.

Now wouldn't that have everyone confused - hehe :D

There is a background noise during the "general quarters" announcement. Is it possible that is power going to powered turrets?..At 1st,I thought it was a CV's flight elevator, but I'm, not sure??

You have a good ear for detail.

Not sure about that noise though

Glad you enjoy it.

I've got it set to play when the computer boots up! its a little bit more lively than the Windows XP theme!

HI, if you have time can anyone submit directions for substituting GQ for the Windows startup "music"? I work at a 911 Comm center and I thing that GQ is appropriate for these computers.
We are running 98 and 2000.

Thanks in advance. And I am familiar with computers so you won't have be detailed.

You won't have any trouble once you get there.

I'm using windows XP pro and the path is:
Control panel - sounds and audio - click on the sounds tab - scroll down to start windows and use browse to point the computer to where you have the file, ( i have put mine in the media file for windows. )

if you have any problems let me know.

i've got my e-mail to play a " Con, radio new message traffic recieved" WAV from Sub Command too.:)

My email used to play a sound when a new message arrived but it doesn't do it any more. I looked and the box is checked to signal when there is a new message (I had put the GQ sound there).:(

Just wondering but has the path to the WAV been changed or screwed up my mistake somehow? Something similar happened to me once and it turned out i had deleted the WAV by accident and hadn't even realised! (Yeah, i know - DUHH!)

Messing something up is so easy with these darned Mojo boxes, You got to show them whose boss. :)

Thanks for the tip. I don't know what path is used for the mail alert I just check the box in Netscape that says soud when new mail arrives. I'll look around.:)

Great sound. I've been using it ever since it was first posted. Seeing this now makes me realize just how long I've been playing UV.

To me this noise sounds like a stampede as the crew rushes to battle stations...

And for outgoing mail - if there is a sound option for that...

EDIT: No, there isn't - too bad. Anyway...
