In this video I explain how to gain naval supremecy playing the Allies, specifically focused on the CVs. I chat about how the Major Port supply change effects the game from a strategic perspective and how the addition of effectiveness loss due to distance from a Major Port effects gameplay.

Good video. I'm sure it's done for "balancing reasons but it sucks that Japan gets all their historical carriers for free but the US is 20 plus short of their historical compliment now their higher production dosen't seem so great, to me it is a down side of both games historically both US and Russia in Europe both were production animals but neither game really accurately reflects that, we keep tweeking little things here and there but the elephant in the room is USA and USSR in wpe both have production that is way to low

Also the back bone of USA carrier strength in pacific was the Essex class carriers which could be fleet or escort class carriers and only took 400 to 450 days and were cheaper to build

Your points concerning production are well taken. I think the problems we encounter are ones of balance and trying to provide a fun gaming experience.

The purpose of the video was to inform. The next step is to see if we can, given the structure of the game, use that knowledge to improve our gaming experience.

All ships are placed on the queue if they were built at the moment. The Japanese still had other CVs they built, but didn't see action or weren't completed.

I'm not bothered by the scripted CV replacements.

As I wrote before, I never counted how many CVs were in the game as I assumed that the US would end up building more CVs than the Japanese.

Turns out, I believe, the US needs to build a few CVs to get maritime superiority sooner. That does not bother me either, as the US gets tons of resources and their objective really should be naval superiority.

According to the PWOE, the total number of carriers available in the Pacific along the war was:

Which reinforces my view that the Yanks need to be buying light CVs early on in the war if they want to be able to starting pushing across the Pacific in 1943.

I agree. You have to build a few CVLs early on to have them in time to change the balance of power in 43. I have seen CVs built early, but that was by a better player than me as I cannot figure out how to pay for them.

For the US, I set replacements pretty high on turn 1 and send India 50 production. I move the US Noumea Def Force with an engineer specialty from New Caledonia to either Espirito Santo or Henderson Field to build it into a major supply base. He is replaced by an Australian unit. I also send as many of my starting infantry as possible to Australia or the islands nearby. On turn 2 I can buy a CVL. Then you have to manipulate the replacements a bit to make sure you have enough production to buy a CVL for each of the following 3 turns. On turn 6, I then begin to send as much production as I can to my allies.

Also, starting on turn 2, I am sending ALL the available US Navy to the area around New Caledonia.

The US doesn't need a lot of land forces, initially, IMO, because until 1943 my primary objective is the Japanese Navy and I am sending my US ground forces to Australia to bolster their defense. You also have a Corps or 2 in the production queue and also 3 bomber units (I believe).

That, of course, is against the AI. Have no idea if it will work against a human.
