the pathing routine gives you this - if your question is what I think it is?
you can actually do more targetted damage with the path setting and varying the in/out routes than sometimes with the actual naval patrol box.
I still have warm feelings of the time I closed off the Bristol Channel with the axis side in WiTW on the turn of the planned invasion of France precisely using this gambit ... last bit of fun I had in the game but it was a nice moment

You can, but if the distance from the staging base is less than 5 or so hexes, you will not be able to draw waypoints. This is true for every directive.

aye, but given the range of most naval air assets, if you want to impose a route even for a short haul mission its quite feasible to use a staging base that gets you around this constraint?
