“This country has not seen and probably will never know the true level of sacrifice of our veterans.” — Thomas M. Smith
I know this is off topic but to all my fellow Vets how do respond to all the silly questions and phrases like "Thank you for your service?"

If it comes with a beer then great. But honestly it's not really a thing in the UK thankfully, it would get to be an annoying platitude pretty quick for me anyway. Not that folk don't respect the armed services as I'm sure on the most part they do as days like this show.

Happy Vets day.
I just say "Your welcome" and move on.
BTW thanks to all those who served and to those that made the ultimate sacrifice.

Well, frankly, I say, "Thanks, but if they had not paid me, I would not have done it."
Does that make me a mercenary, a professional, or both?

A mercenary would gotten paid a lot more and chosen the job to be done. Where you a professional? I hope so. Amateurs get people killed.
