TF Numbering

Post by actrade »

Is there a way to number (not name...I understand that) the TF rather than the computer assigning it?

Lol sorry I figure that part out and changed my topic..not realizing you'd already replied! I did figure out that I had to click on the TF ship icons at Anchorage to choose a TF...I was clicking on the base and/or anchor, neither of which works obviously.

Ok thanks. Again, I'm trying hard to follow Kull's set up and noticed that his TF have numbers starting with TF 1. I realize I can name my TF whatever I want, but I can't change the number apparently. Thanks again.

There isn't a way to control it, but there is a way to manipulate it.

When the game engine assigns no. 1 (or any other low number desirable for a combat TF) to a CS Supply convoy (or any other TF type you don't want hogging the desirable low TF number), immediately stop forming that TF and disband it.

Go find a combat TF with a high TF number, disband it and immediately reform it and it will be assigned the coveted number 1.

Then go back and reform the CS Supply convoy, which will get the previously unavailable high number that the combat TF had.

Some game actions take place in sequence based on the ID number of the TF.
This is most evident on the first turn of Allied movement at Manila.
TFs will leave Manila in the ID number sequence of their TFs such that if you don't want the valuable ships you are hoping to save to run afoul of the submarine laid minefield the first TFs you create there had better be Minesweeping TFs.

I'm not sure how many other actions use TF ID number for sequencing, but that one is easily verifiable.

Each turn, as TF numbers become available due to disbanding on the previous turn, pay attention as you create TFs and make forming combat TFs your first priority, so the newly assigned low TF numbers are going to your Minesweeping and ASW TFs. In other words, don't start your turns off using up the low TF numbers on TFs you don't want them assigned to.
