I pronounce it Ra-bow-ul.

In Polynesian, you pronounce every letter, even if they seem extraneous. So Lae should be La-ie. Sal-a-ma-u-a. Ir-a-u. Etc.

Most of these place names are butchered versions of what the natives called them as translated by Captain Cook, Bougainville, etc.

Its Ra-bowel

But the "O" sounds a lot like an "a" as in "rat"

What was it like? Were there a lot of remnants from the war?
