Kovel & Mogilev

Map errors:

1. Kovel is on the wrong side of the Bug. It must be in Soviet territory.
2. Mogilev is placed on the wrong river. It is on the Dniepr not on the Berezina.

There is also Grodno that is on the wrong side of the Neman. Now that I play a little with the editor, I will rework the map and propose something in one shot.

Gomel is on the wrong side of the Dniepr.
Bryansk is not where it is supposed to be.
Kaluga is not near the Besed and not well placed.
Kirovograd is not on the Dniepr.

Funny, I wonder how I have not seen this before. [:D]

I am modifying rivers too. Is there a way to share these files once I have finished?

Rivers are a subjective item in any WW2 grand strategy game to slow or accelerate the progress of the game.
I'm leaving rivers as they are.

I don't know if this is the map's projection but could you also check the position of Kalinin, compared to Rzhev, in the process?

Thank you

Just to be sure, I have bought a Peters map of the world and there is a general problem on the eastern front. Moscow is not placed where it needs to be. It must be three hexes on the east compared to its current location. And it must be five hexes north of its current location.

If WP1 map is used for WP2, I will start a dedicated thread in the tech support forum to track all map mistakes.

Velikije Luki, Vitebsk, Smolensk are completely offset south when you compare them with Konigsberg.

And Kursk is too south compared to Gomel. The advantage of Peters map projection: parallel lines.

Prague is south of the Elbe river. And Vienna, Bratislava and Linz are not correctly placed. This is due to the fact that there are two Linz on the map... This one directly south of Prague is the correct location of Linz.

Bergen is on the west coast of Norway. Trondheim is plain north of Olso.

I am so used to the Mercator projection. This Peter projection hurts my brain

Well whatever the projection, I have never seen Smolensk and Moscow south of Minsk like in this game.
There is not a lot to correct to have a good map because the south is quite good.

Ah it works better now. Mogilev is now placed on the Dniepr not on the Berezina...

Smolensk, Vitebsk, Velikiye Luki, Kursk are now in their correct location.
Bobruisk has taken the old position of Mogilev on the Berezina.

Moscow is even a little south. One hex north missing imo.

Rzhev, Vyazma, Bryansk, Orel, Tula, Kaluga, Vladimir, Gorki are completely off track.

But, Voronezh and Tambov are not that bad.

Moscow, Vyazma, Bryansk, Orel, Kursk, Tula, Kaluga are now at their correct location.
Of course, the rivers are not correct. The land bridge will soon be there.

Crossed checked with the position of Velikiye Luki, Vitebsk, Vyazma, Kaluga, Arkhangelsk and Moscow, here are the real locations for Rzhev, for Vladimir and for Kalinin. I have also added Ryazan with a small typo.

Yaroslavl, Ivanov, Gorki, Kazan locations are wrong. In fact, few things north and north east of Stalingrad must be revised.

All right, it took me 2.5 hours but I think I have achieved a far better representation of USSR.
The land bridge can be clearly seen now.

I kept the old position of Moscow, in red, for comparison.

You bought a map with a Peter projection that you are using as a reference, right?

That is true. That way I have the correct location of place names and rivers. And I use WITE2 too to see major river names and major railways.

The problem is just in this part of the map. But, that changes everything for USSR. Because the good position of Moscow is essential, essential to have the correct distance between Moscow and Poland.

And now that I am comparing this map with GMT The Dark Valley, I am pretty happy to have something good.
