Map and Unit Mod Rounds And Hexes

These are screen shots of Version 1,256,099.45 and counting Map and Unit Mod.

I like Round air units with black silhouettes and hex shaped naval unit counters. Having three unique shaped unit counters helps me get the big picture when I zoom out. Same shaped land, air and naval markers make it hard for me distinguish what's what.

Imagine missing missing a weak spot in the line covered by only an air unit. I have. I can zoom extremely far out and still tell what's in that stack in a port or if there even ships in that port. Anyway to each his own.

I declare an informal contest to see who can be the first to guess what planes the silhouettes represent. The winner will get a great sigh of relief and a huge congratulations from me.

One more thing. I love hexed based games. It just feels right, but I hate to see the hexes. I've tried to hide them using various ridiculously complex, labor intensive methods and I hope Al tells me how to do it easier.

Please see attached screen shots and the mod should be out soon...

There are some doubles in the planes, example there are two P-38s :).

That first one was a bright version.
This will be the final version unless someone wants it brighter.

Damn, that resolution is terrible. Oh well what can you expect at such a small file size requirement.

See how far out you can distinguish unit types. Well maybe bit at this resolution, but at normal res you can still tell quit well.

Nobody thinks these are purtty and add to the playability of the game?

Hum, I guess my taste is all in my mouth.

This is great work and I am using examples of your counters in my games. The different land, air and ground counter shapes are good for making sense of unit stacks, which all adds to the immersion you get from these graphic improvements. [8D]

Thanks Rasputitsa: I was just fishing for some kind of acknowledgement that my post was read and understood.

I'll send you all the files if you wish. I'm still working on the map and cleaning up the units.

Mr. H.,
Not sure if you are using Gimp, but those mountains look like they've been hit by the mosaic filters.
There are only 3 issues for me and they are all totally subjective and can be totally ignored.
1. The Alpine mountain vibrancy/ contrast is too intense, has the look of crinkled silver foil, the mountain hex edge is very abrupt with the plain tile.
2. I think there needs to be greater contrast between the units and the map, they need to 'pop' which they do in the closeups but get a little lost in the zoom outs. Maybe a more definite drop shadow? Can't say I'm a fan of the flag hanging off the counter, loses the suspended belief I'm playing a board game.
3. The BIG difference between the Europe and Pacific games is the ocean, I still contend that the standard ocean graphics are too dark, but again a contrast tweak may help. Refer image.

So feedback... Gotta say anyone that has a go; awesome. The best thing about graphics mods, there doesn't need to be a definitive single outcome, and the good thing about these games is the relative ease of the mix 'n match of fles.

Also, the image upload size restriction seems to have been removed from some games threads on the forum.

(Please don't take the review personally, I critique graphics projects as part of my job, and I can't help putting in an opinion).
Regards

A.

I have a set of your original counter mods from WarPlan Europe and your previous posts on this forum, which I adjusted and use in the Pacific game, so I am very happy with the result. It's a big improvement to the game.

I am able to wait until you have finished working on the images, thanks for the progress so far. [8D]
