Can we have three separate fire effect instead of just one. So one for small arms which will be the smallest. Then one for Arty and finally one for napalm (lots of fire). Actually four would be better one for mortars too. This would give a quick easy way to judge what is being fired. Also give a visual umpf to Napalm strikes and arty.
Also a sound effect for when a Heli has risen\taken off and another for when it's descending\landing.

But I think we do.
In 3D, we have distinctly different animations for light arms Direct Fire vs. arty Indirect Fire vs. Airstrike napalm strikes. Not only that, we have dozens of variations, with different graphics, patterns, delays and sequencing, etc. (Within the graphics engine's overall limitations, of course.)
Or do you mean in 2D? Yes, not so much variety there. Strictly functional, no glitz.

Good suggestion. I play in 2D because with the (attractive, but busy) Vietnam terrain set, the 3D units disappear into the background of the hexes. I play at 2560x1440, and while text and all is fine (unlike the case with some games) even at the most zoomed in units are really hard to discern against the background. Even the 3D bases blend in, with there largely matte finishes. I think the maps and units by and large look pretty good, though the non-NATO 2D art could use some refinement. Hard to tell at a glance whether that's a guy with a LMG or someone with a fishing pole.

Have you tried Options > Unit Bases > Standard? They are monochrome, in clear colors, precisely for this reason.

Doh, yeah, those do look better. Must have missed 'em the first time. Combined with a different highlight color (magenta works for me) it improves visibility a lot. Thanks!
I am guessing it's an engine limitation, so probably not an easy (or even perhaps possible) fix but it would be great if things like the unit viewer and jump map could be toggles, where hitting the hotkey a second time closes the window.

Don't forget Display > Highlight > All Units, available also on the Highlight toolbar, and by using the * (asterisk) hotkey.

Interesting suggestions. I will see what I can do.

I also wish the Unit sidebar info showed the actual units org ie 1st platoon A coy 1st Regiment 101st Airborne (though obviously abbreviated instead of the generic unit type). Also colour coded stripe on 2D unit counter at say coy level. So lets say all A Coy has a blue band across counter.

To see all units of the same org, select a unit in that org, then access Display > Highlight > Organization (hotkey Z).

Speaking of sound effects, there's an assault sound file in which "Sanitater!" can be heard being shouted. A leftover remnant from Talonsoft's East Front 2/West Front. (Also, there's another one in which you hear "Corporal Mellish's" (Adam Goldberg) grunts as he tangles with that SS trooper from "Saving Private Ryan.")
German WW2 vets did serve in the French Foreign Legion during the Viet Minh War, but still hearing "sanitater" in this game is a bit jarring.

That was an oversight ("overhear"?) to be removed in CSVN 1.01.

Yes, a made a typo in Sounds.dat allowing it to be played among the seven sound files that were legit. I might be in need of Sanitäter myself!
Fixed in 1.01
