Given the enormous number of platoon files that shipped with the release version of the game I guess there were always going to be a few glitches, and its no big deal as this can be corrected in a future update, but it looks to me that while the NVA have the later SA3 “Goa” SAM that they don’t get the earlier SA2 “Guideline” one that was supplied to them by the Soviets earlier and in much greater numbers.

I will let Jason answer this, there's so many unit types here it might have just been accidentally entered with a typo in the Start Date, and omitted for that reason.

SA 2 became available in late 1966, with a first kill around that time?

Yes, they should have been included in the OOB. I am unsure why they are missing, they are usual standard with all pro communist countries.

Thanks for including these in the latest update. However and this is my fault for not mentioning it originally but a SAM2 Guideline unit also needs to be added to the Chinese OOB as well.

Whatever else they were or were not up to covertly in the Vietnam War the PLA certainly deployed anti-aircraft units to Vietnam in the 1960’s which saw action there.

For details of Chinese participation in the Vietnam War see “China and the Vietnam Wars, 1950-1975”, by Qiang Zhai published by The University of North Carolina Press and “The Dragon in the Jungle: The Chinese Army in the Vietnam War,” by Xiaobing Li published by OUP USA.

When you come to the Sino Vietnamese war, “Deng Xiaoping's Long War: The Military Conflict Between China and Vietnam, 1979-1991”, by Xiaoming Zhang, published by The University of North Carolina Press as well worth a look. In addition to the 1979 Clash it is also very good on the border fighting in the 1980’s including the battle of Laoshan in 1984 with a detailed map of the contested area on page 150.
