Another slow performance question

Until about a week ago everything seemed to be going OK BUT then all of a sudden the computer times out everry so often. It doesn't stay there too long but it is annoying. Anyways the movie doesn't play at the beginning of loading the game - that's not that annoying but I didn't tell it to skip the movie. Anybody got a solution to the delay? (don't especially care about the movie)

Have you tried saving the game, exiting and restarting? I only get slowdown and strange display issues when memory gets full and I need to restart to clear it.

Have you recently updated Windows anyway?

Windows 10 is nearly constantly updating automatically on my computer and in spite of that everything seemed to work fine with the game.
The skipping of the movie is more of a symptom than anything else. Right now the only switch I'm using is "-w" on the command line which worked fine until recently.
The delay that is most annoying is the cursor for the game going round and round for an indeterminate length of time every so often. It does this with 'no prompting' but I walk away from the game for a bit (like to walk the dog or whatever) the delay lasts longer. The other thing that happens when the cursor is doing its thing is the whole screen 'glosses over' (sort of fades) whenever I press the ESC key but then seems to recover after an indeterminate time.

Yes I know I really meant change version. Windows no longer supports Media player but it can be downloaded separately. Have you tried including other switches and to me honest if -w is the only one you've been using then I think you've been lucky. Mine looks like this playing on 1920x1080 display.
-pxf1900 -pyf1000 -cpu4 -SingleCpuOrders -dd_sw -altFont -multiaudio -deepColor -skipVideo -archive -w

I went to the "List of Switches" thread but still couldn't find definitions of each switches effect.
Still looking for a fix for what was probably a "fix" for some Windows 10 problem. As mentioned, there are some delays during the turn when clicking on various unit/bases/TFs. Sometimes there is a delay and sometimes there is no delay and I can't predict when there is and when there is not but overall it at least doubles the time I spend on making a move.
ADDITIONAL SYMPTOMS
1)The replay seems to go normally (no delays).
2)One time I had to reload everything (game related) and myself and one of my opps were not synched. I saw the At start movie (didn't have the no movie switch loaded). Once my opp and I were synched I lost the A4)t start movie. The culprit was the use of stacking limits (in Big B Mod). I originally (and my opp) had loaded the stacking limits into the Scenario Folder whereas it was supposed to go in the root directory. When I reloaded it I noticed that it was supposed to go in the root directory. Since my opp had loaded it into the Scen Folder we were not synched.
3) Up to now I have used no switches beyond "-w".
4) What does switch "dd_sw" mean? There are some other switches that seem undefined by any thread but it'd be nice to know what the effect they might have. "=dd_sw" and all the ones that have been suggested in various threads seem to have no effect on the delay but there are others which I can't figure out that might correct the delay.

have you tried :
https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/win ... 2925334195
The switches provided in this thread by chri2wen should be working. except for the first -pxf.. and -pyf... Replace them with -px1600 and -py900 Do you know how and where to use the switches?
Take care of good spelling -deepColor is exactly like this. lower case 'd' and uppercase 'C' . Misspelling them will not generate an error. Just nothing happens.

Yep, I've used switches before but the ones i used on my old computer don't work on my new computer. The delays experienced previously don't occur as often but they do sometimes - not ready to give up yet. Any suggestions welcome - just make sure that you include what the switch is supposed to do since there are some that I don't know,
The switches currently in use in this computer are -w, -dual, -deepColor. Windows 11. I also got rid of some bloatware.

You might try reading the readme.doc that comes with the game
In it you will find this
PerformanceSwitches
(Please note that the old –dual switch has been removed in favor of the below combination of more configurable switches)
And a list of the switches and what they do.
The file Whatsnew.pdf is also available. Do not use the readme.rtf, it is old

It is critical to use the hyphen at the top of the keyboard and not the minus sign on the numeric keyboard. Sometimes when people cut and paste switches they get the wrong character and the switch will do nothing.

I imagine that it is mentioned somewhere else but one
needs to open the beta2 folder to find the
readme1126 file which tells all about the switches that get rid of the delays. If one only looks in the AE quickstart icon on one's screen you find a readme file in the main directory that won't cure your delays.
You need a bunch of paper(68 pages) to print out all the game play changes instituted in the Beta as well as the switch info (no wonder I'm losing my PBEMs

).

For what it is worth, I had exactly the same problem. I managed to improve it quite a bit with, I believe, the singleCPUorders switch. At least I think that is the one that helped.

It's really unforunate that the development of the game out stripped the documentation.
