Change sounds?

Is it possible to change the sounds of unit movement? #SOUND= can be used for scripts, the sound file .ogg is referenced but can unit movement sounds be changed? My mod does not have any vehicle movement, for example, can an orc horde sound be attached to the #UNIT_ID= of an orc horde?

Yes, it is, and the best place to start is on page 144 (154 of 216) of the Manual, with the section 3.3.2. Customize Your Campaign.
Customizing the sound is included on the following page.
Hopefully you can get it working ok, but if not then please let us know.

Thanks for that, Bill. I'll have a play around and post any questions I have here. Cheers

As an example,
#UNIT_ID_26= Tanks in localization.txt uses tank_movement1.ogg from the Sound folder. Does it also use tank_movement2 for variation or is that assigned to heavy tanks?
In my mod, I am using ID_26 for mounted knights, so I assume I would create a tank_movement1.ogg of horses galloping (or whatever) and call it tank_movement1.ogg and put that in the custom campaign Sound folder. The connection between the new sound file and the UNIT_ID is made in the coding? Is that correct?

Unfortunately, unless I have got this wrong, my mod will need to be played without sound. There can be 3 or more UNIT_IDs that use the same ogg e.g. cavalry bde, div and corps use cavalry_movement#.ogg. If the mod has very different units occupying those UNIT_IDs with very different sounds, only one sound can be used. What I would need is to be able to specify a specific file, preferrably one that can use any name, with a UNIT_ID.

You're right, some sound files are used by more than one unit type so it might be better played without sound if it isn't possible to group them easily according to their associated sound files.
On the plus side it will save you some time in making the mod, which sounds rather intriguing.
