Running on Linux

Hi, I'm trying to run the game on Linux via wine, installed with no problems, and using "oldsound" (or nosound") works just fine, except that the tooltips appearing and disappearing almost instantaneously, and eventually making the game crash.
And yes, I know that I could make the tooltip a non-show by putting a really high number in the settings, but I would like them to work.
Any ideas?

Which version of Wine are you using?

Hi, I'm using now wine-staging 7.2-1, before that I had just plain wine, presumably the same version, but I'm not sure. Anyway, the same happened in both cases.
Do you have it running with an older wine?

In the wine wiki, some guy posted:
Otherwise, it will not. "Use Mac driver instead of X11" was checked to correct tooltips hiding too quickly to be read

Is the exact same problem that I have, not that the mac driver would work since I'm on linux but maybe that's a hint to the problem.

Donwgrading wine to 6.2 didn't fix it.

PS I can't believe they updated the forum, finally!

The tool tip popup never work properly on Wine 6.x either. The popup rendered without transparency (just a large black rectangle around the graphics) but at least the game was completely stable. I'll do some testing on Wine 7 when when I have time. At the moment I don't have anything else to suggest, sorry.

Thanks, I guess I will have to live without the popup. In my case is rendering well, but disappears almost instantly.

I think I'm gonna go the VM route, everything works (just realized that the fonts in the tabs of the button panel don't show in wine), not losing much performance, and also has the advantage of the DPI settings in the executable. Also is not crashing whatsoever....

I finally tested on Wine 7.7 and the game runs exactly the same as it did with earlier versions of Wine. I did a fresh install on a clean Wine prefix, did not install DirectX, then upgraded to the latest release (skipping 4.1.0.21 patch). I only disabled sound effects and played a few turns. No crashes or other show stopper issues.

The problem with the rotated fonts the button panel existed in earlier versions of Wine. One of these days, I'll file a Wine bug report about it. ;)

Thanks, did you try the "oldsound" setting? I have found that would fix the problem with the sound on wine.

Thanks, but as I said, I'm running it on a VM and works surprisingly well. Maybe because I don't like the monster scenarios :D
Anyway, I'll install it on wine just for kicks.

Well, the Wine option is necessary for those of us (myself included) who don't have access to Windows media that we can install in a VM.
