Modding 2D chit Unit graphics

Hello everyone.

I followed Crossroads' "Dev Diary #6 - 2D View: NATO and unit icons, chits explained" in order to be able to modify 2D chits. The best I could do is have the modified graphics show in the CS Unit Viewer and the Unit Handbook (F2), but not in-game on the map.

I modified the correct 2D Icons file and in the correct position within that file because it appears in the two places I've stated above , but still not shown in-game on the map.

To be clear, I wasn't trying to modify the NATO symbols, but attempting to place a specific unit symbol on the chit independent of the NATO symbol.

Any advice?

Do you mean the 2D Unit Profiles that were included in CS Middle East? CS Vietnam supports either NATO symbols or 3D images on chits. Unit Profiles are not supported due to vast amount of work creating such sheets for all nations would demand.

Does this answer your question?

I understand the direction the devs went in with 3D graphics in lieu of 2D on the chits. But even though the unit profiles are no longer there, why not still allow us to mod the "Icons.0dXX.bmp" files like with CSME as in allow us to create our own graphics for any unit of any country?

We did consider that, but decided it would be too confusing to have empty chits for 1.00 release, or even ones with a simple default profile. Something perhaps for later?
