How do i make my unit move the way i want,NOT the way the ai choses?

Post by Marc1314 »

Hi, my units have surrounded a village containing an enemy unit on three sides. I've started a new turn(Night) and i want to move some units round the other side of the village to cut off supply.
However every move i try to make the ai wants to move my unit(s) through the village instead of going round the outside.
As its night-time the enemy icon has disappeared but i don't have full recon on the village so i don't know if the unit has really bolted or not.
I don't want to take the risk and would rather travel around the outside of the village but even if i plan to move one hex at a time the ai still makes me go through the village probably due to a small river which flows round one side of the village.

Is there any way to override the path the ai has chosen for my unit?
I think i can remember in other games holding down shift or ctrl to this, if there is no way to do it then could this feature be added?

You can organize a Team/Kampfgruppe of foot infantry that can ford the small river !

Thanks for the tip @nikdav, i tried what you suggested and i did indeed manage to get some infantry across the little river and behind the town (Clervaux) :)
Except it turned out that the enemy already had some unseen troops in that hex as well and i ended up getting ambushed by them hehehe.
Ah well, lesson learned i suppose.

You can play as in the real life, if you want to know who own that hex you must send a patrol to investigate !

You can do hex-by-hex moves. The AI has a problem when there are a lot of roads in the vicinity and will move from one hex containing a road to an adjacent hex containing a road even though the two roads are not connected. In these cases if you do a hex-by-hex move your unit will expend fewer APs than if you let the AI pick a route.

I agree with Marc, something needs to be done. In my attach pic I am trying to move my 162 Engineer just straight north but the move AI won't allow it. It forces me to follow the road!! Perhaps just holding down the shift key allows the unit to move one ehx in any direction!

I see a jump of two levels (200m), don't think the trucks can use that hexside !

Not sure how you can tell there is a two level cliff/jump. But the unit underneath the engineer unit was a AT gun and it went down the slope with no problem. So .... now what?
