Steam version of Combat Mission games

I was really happy to see the CM games going to Steam. Makes the patching process so much simplar. However I noticed the CM games played from Steam seem to be clunky, slow and borderline freezing up for large battles. I finally redownloaded the non steam version, installed it and it works just fine with none of the problems I encountered with the Steam version. I also noticed CMBS is much slower and clunky in the Steam version.
