Withdrawing Panzer's During 1941 / 42 How Is This Possible

Well I know the Title of the post sounds odd to have for the game.
However
Keep reading posts from players talking about how they are pulling some or all of there Pz units out of the front lines in the winter of 41 / 42.
In the course of of conversation with @stamb he also wondered too but also said it seems easy when it comes to P v P games.
So HOW !!!!
I play PVE games and struggle to hold the front from Dec to March against the AI, considering the German withdrawals from Oct - Dec you can barely field a DIV strength front line.
Look I am no expert at this game but in the same breath I am not complete potato either.
My current game I have just managed to pull Pz DIV out of the line and into the reserve box, and I am wondering if I did the right thing, I plan to put a PG DIV in the box as its smashed up and depleted.
I don't mind conceding some territory here and there to create a better defensive position, but I'm not prepare give up vast swaths of hard fought territory, besides once you reach leningrad, Moscow and Stalino, no amount of falling back can shorten you line enough.
My current front consist is Regt level strength almost right across the map and there are still gaps.
So if anyone that manages to pull there armour out completely would like to share the secret i would be grateful.
rgards

Well, it is not easy in PvP game.
But it is much easier vs human, in my experience (1 game vs AI, 1 vs human), than vs AI.
Because AI teleports everywhere. And you have to have reserves to cover whole frontline.
Also I was lucky to take Leningrad which allowed me to free some forces (in both games)
From the start of the game it was clear that panzers suck in `41 vs mech/armor Soviet forces. And when it was clear that I will not push any further I decided to send some panzers to Reserve for a few turns (to refit), and then to west TB.
As a result I was able to send infantry divisions to a map (I specifically select IDs that have only 1 transfer, and it is transfer to a map, not to mess any other TBs later in the game.) earlier than planned. For example some division come to a map at turn 34. But I was able to send it on a map on turn 28. Because I have panzers from a map(reserve) to compensate missing CV.
And then ground requirements in west TB drops.
As a result in March `41 I had something like 8 pazner divisions in the west and reserve that were waiting for a TOE update and after that - ready to be sent to a map.
In some AAR, probably AlbertN's, I asked question if it is a viable strategy, and people said that it might work. And now I confirm that it works. It is better to have ID on a map than a panzer one, as 1 turn in blizzard hex without city/urban/heavy urban/fort lvl 2 or higher and ALL panzers become damaged. I saw it.
But was it possible to withdraw all panzers? I couldn't. I think I still had 8-10 panzers on a map for the whole winter.

Interesting do remember you mentioning swapping out Pz's for INF DIV's I will look into that.
Unfortunately my current game has the locked Theatre Box setup so I will just have to suffer for this game.
Next game I will look at a open box setup
cheers

It is impossible to withdraw tanks from the map when the theaters are blocked! You won't be able to get them back! In fact, we are talking about the rotation of tanks in exchange for infantry divisions! But playing with blocked theaters is boring! I advise you to manage the theaters yourself! This adds a lot of interesting things to the game!

A few things about panzers and winter.
It is possible to send panzer divisions to the reserves for rehab, but it's best to do it gradually. One to three at most should be there at any one time. The turn after they arrive in the reserves not much will happen. Set the unit(s) on refit and on following turns the damaged tanks will disappear as they are either repaired or deemed non-repairable and get tossed out. Then new equipment will be added in. Depending on how many tanks are in the unit that goes back to the reserves will need a couple weeks at least to refit.
I'd recommend sending all reserve tank battalions that start to arrive in the reserves on the first 1942 turn be sent to OKH on map. You really don't need to use those units extensively unless you want to refit a division's tanks wholesale. If they stay in the reserves, the AI is liable to fill them with a few tanks here and there and you really want them in the divisions. Once you are done rehabbing the divisions, you can refit the battalions as you see fit.
When you bring the division back on map it may be lacking significant trucks. No problem, just refit it on the Berlin hex and the NSS will fill the unit with trucks.
Every panzer division has recon, CS and medium tanks. Focus on the mediums. Recon tanks will never be produced in sufficient numbers to fill your divisions and in the big/historical scheme of things is already on it's way out. Same goes for the CS tank. The Panzer IIIN with the short 75mm was the last German CS tank and their final production year was 1943. You can always use a 21-vehicle StuG battalion in lieu of these type vehicles.
Most fully equipped panzer divisions will want to have about 114 mediums. In 1942 terms, that's about three weeks of production. The Czech TO&E that has a lot more mediums allocated will change to a standard 1942 TOE in April.
Lastly, understand that as long as your on map panzer division stays in Germany or Poland, you will not suffer first winter attrition through the end of March 1942. But as soon as you step into the Soviet Union, they become casualties. So make an effort to stay put until it's safe again.
In my current PvP game by mid April, I only had three panzer divisions that were not sent back. One I did use the replacement battalions on, the other two just stayed put and gradually they got replacements.

Thanks
A lot good points to look into here
Good Idea with replacement bat at the moment there in the reserve
I will have a closer look at the make up of the Pz's and see what i can do with there make up i know some have the Czech models.
cheers

One edit, there were actually 6 panzer divisions that did not go back to the reserves. The 6th, 7th and 10th were due to transfer to Western Europe before June 42 and with locked TBs there was no good reason to rehab them. Since the 22nd, 23rd and 24th come to the map from Western Europe it's a good trade.

Good advice as I'm at this point in my first campaign as the Axis. One question though, I have chosen Warsaw as entry hex from the reserves. Will they get trucks if set on refit there or does it need to be in Germany/Berlin?
