[1.10.07] Militia not getting artillery replacements.

So, yeah, i've attached a save with a militia unit (The 4th Minos Mobile Regiment) with two missing artillery elements. The city where its from has a) 20 equipment in stock. b) 700 manpower in reserve. and c) its max size is 400 above current size. Yet, whenever i run the turn, it produces no artillery to fill the holes in my regiment at all. This behaviour seems rather odd, and i think there might be a bug involved somewhere.

Militia replacements are tricky.

There's a roll for whether they are created, and I dont think having equipment or troops 'in reserve', ie. at SHQ affects that role. The main factors are the 'Militia' relationship score for your regime, shown on your profile (the <resistance fist> icon), and the 'Militancy' score of the zone.

Your SHQ doesnt incur any costs when Militia units are created, and individual Militia Companies (x100) can not be transferred in to any Battalion of Regulars. Regulars can be transferred in to Militia Battalions though, at SHQ or in the field.

Artillery is a high-cost unit in terms of IP and Metal, and since the 'Create Unit' roll might, I think, generate and bank resources until it reaches a limit, and then create a whole unit, rather than generating one or two Companies every other turn and banking the units... if it works like that... then Militia Artillery may be less likely to be generated than any other type of Militia unit.

I mean, when a zone generates Militia, it seems to do so usually, but not always, as a full Battalion unit (even if they might call it a Brigade. I'm still not clear on the terms.), rather than as individual Companies to be sent as replacements to existing Militia Battalions.

There is an Militia Artillery in my game too; and probably in most people's. Mine hasn't had a single replacement *Artillery* company through to turn 60 now. The thing I've found to do is to move the unit to your SHQ, or on top of another (usually Regular) Artillery unit, and then transfer one or two Regular Gun companies in to your Artillery-equipped Militia, thus giving it to the radical youth to prosecute their fervor on the wildlife.

It makes sense in game turns. Militia units have often historically depended on the Army to give them their best equipment. Remember: These are Volunteers.

So there may well not be a bug here.

Yep. Militia basically do what they want and how they want it. And they have strong preference for creating fresh units.

Yeah, i suppose the main reason i'm worried about it being some form of bug is that i've been playing SE since release and i've NEVER seen the Eqp. Repl in the militia screen on any of my zones being any number other than zero. I'd appreciate my "motorized" militia at least making an effort to replace their trucks.
