Equipment Conversion

The information enclosed in the editwir text file seems to be quite outdated. According to it,
Every week starting in January 43:

1/4 of the Stug-IIIB pool turns into Stug-IIIG.

1/4 of the Pz-II, R35, Pz38, Pz-38(e) pools turn into Marder III.

1/4 of the Pz-III(f-j) pools turn into Pz-IIIm.

1/4 of the Pz-IV(d-g) pools turn into Pz-IVh.

1/4 of the Elefant pool turns into Jagdtiger.

1/4 of the Marder III pool turns into Hetzer.

1/4 of the M13/40 and M15/42 pools turn into Marder III.

Instead of the Marder III, the Pz-II, Pz-38, and Pz-38(e) pools upgrade to the Marder II. In addition, contrary to the assertion of the editwir text file, the Pz-III(f-j) pools fail to convert into the Pz-IIIm. Similarly, the Pz-IV(d-g) pools do not upgrade to the Pz-IVh and the Stug-IIIb pool fails to convert into the Stug-IIIg. Indeed, these pools of obsolete equipment do not upgrade at all.

So, something could be wrong somewhere. Could any old-timers, especially RickyB and Ed Cogburn, please help me out regarding the conversion of obsolete equipment in WIR3.3? Incidentally, I am playing the 1941 Scenario with the difficulty set to "Even".

Thanks!

I have just replicated the so-called equipment conversion ‘bug’, this time with Possum 6. Alternatively, without detracting the excellent work performed by Arnaud and his team of volunteers, it is quite possible that the Editwir text file is outdated.

Does anyone else have such similar experiences?

Let me take this opportunity to thank Possum for his splendid 1941 scenario. Besides making the Axis role more challenging, it is perhaps even more historically accurate. For instance, http://www.wwiivehicles.com/html/germany/index.htm documents the low levels of German tank production.

All I could say is that I am glad to have rediscovered the game that I first played in the 1980s.:)

K.J.001 - did you get my reply to your message you sent me yet? In it, I said that Arnaud had put in a post-3.3 version readme file that he had eliminated the conversions except for PzII to Marder II and Pz38t to MarderIII, so I am guessing you are right, as I think he implemented it prior to adding it to the readme file.

Thanks for bringing it up.

RickyB, thank you for your enlightening reply. Due to my utter inexperience with the forum, I have been checking my user cp as opposed to my e-mail account for your reply.:o

Despite being a newbie at this forum, I would recommend that Arnaud reinstate the various conversions, as it was the practice of the Germans to constantly refit their tanks, tank destroyers, and assault guns when they were repaired at the factories.

In the meantime, I shall play WIR3.3 with Possum 6, as there is almost nothing to convert due to low Axis production.;) :D I have abandoned my previous game, as it is all too easy playing Axis against the AI, even though I am adhering to the informal House Rules. With the very first attack after the long 1941/2 winter of blizzards, which saw almost no Soviet Winter Counteroffensive, my panzers have successfully enveloped Moscow once more. As Leningrad has long fallen, I seriously doubt that even mud could prevent the inevitability of an early Axis victory.:( At the same time, judging from the various posts, I would presume that this is perhaps the norm at this forum.

RickyB, I have decided to closely scrutinize the conversions once more.

Starting from the first week of Jan 1943, the Pz-IIs indeed upgrade to Marder IIs. However, at the moment, I am unable to confirm if the Pz-38(t)s convert to Marder IIs or Marder IIIs. So, the unreleased Readme file may be right to state that the Pz-38ts upgrade to Marder IIIs.

However, the unreleased Readme file has neglected to document that the Pz-38t(e)s also convert to presumably Marder IIIs.

I think that you (and others) may wish to know.
