I have been looking at words like 'Glowing' and 'Bastion', using notepad++ on all txt and xml files and there is no relevant return on this.

So where would be located the ships names and how ship name generation is done? I guess there is a list for civilian and another for military, but the granularity seems to stop there. So I can probably get an escort named "Wrath of the Universe", while a battleship can be named "Sting"? I'm interested in such modding, I know it will never go to the precision of the nerdy Aurora, but that would be cool to have something more diverse here.

Ideally the developers can basically copy a system and GUI like Stellaris has an allow for the selection of custom name lists per empire when starting a new game. Then we can edit simple text files.

Not exactly like Stellaris however.

Something that has always annoyed me about the Stellaris implementation is that the name lists interfere with the checksum, and so disable achievements etc.

This is part of all the stuff that's still hardcoded.

Well that's a bummer. Hopefully once the dev team gets the game stabilized from a patch and performance standpoint they can open up some of those areas and others to modding. Its not a huge deal but just adds to the immersion factor and race customization. My earlier post referenced Stellaris and I agree we don't want a direct copy of their system. Since most of the ships are two name, to start it would be nice to come up with a list of the randomly chosen first and second words.

Either way, I'd definitely chalk this up as a lower priority quality of life update.

I wish I could rename ships directly in the sidebar list.

Its not a necro if its still DW2 and it is still not implemented, right?
