Automatic Station Retrofit

When I design new spaceports, research stations, or other bases in space, my structures automatically begin retrofitting to the new design. I never told them to do so, and I play completely manually. I still double-checked in the automation policy settings, but couldn't find anything to prevent my bases from retrofitting. This is problematic, as I might want different designs in different systems (for example, perhaps a SSP design is for combat because it is in a dangerous region, whereas other SSP designs could be less combat-orientated as they are in safer areas of space). Furthermore, perhaps I believe I don't have the resources or credits to immediately retrofit ALL bases across my empire. Maybe I only wanted my core worlds to upgrade their SSPs.

Essentially, this post is a sort of cry to the void. Why are my bases automatically retrofitting to new designs, and is this really something I have no control over?

You do have control over it. In the designs screen there is a column for retrofits. You can click on the text in this column to switch each design to either manual or automatic retrofitting.

Do you click on "Upgrade" when updating your starbases? For me it switches from "Manual" to "Automatic" retrofit every time I update a ship or base via the upgrade button which I wanted on manual retrofit. Right now the only solution I found is to remember to switch retrofit back to manual after I hit the upgrade button.

LOL. I stand corrected. I'm not sure how I forgot about this, but I did! Thank you...
