Please also try the new 1.0.2.9 beta update:
https://www.matrixgames.com/forums/view ... 1&t=382205
If you are having issues playing Distant Worlds 2 with an AMD GPU, could you please try the following directions and let us know if they make a difference for you?
Please also try launching the game directly from the AMD console.
Use a custom graphics profile (i.e. turn off everything, especially Anti-Lag) and turn off AMD Freesync under the Distant Worlds 2 gaming profile.
Please also try this change: Wait for vertical Refresh option -"On unless Application specifies".
If the game does not launch on the first try, please try again a few times and see if anything changes.

Unfortunately no change with the new profile settings. Game still crashes when viewing battles.

Why turn off freesync ? I mean if this game force a vsync please at minimum add the option in the game setting so that we can turn it off.
I want FreeSync ON and disable vsync.

If it's help I got a crash dump for this exact same problem:
https://www.matrixgames.com/forums/view ... 6&t=380875
I zoomed in to a battle and I think I fired energy weapon.

I tried to turn off the Radeon Anti Lag settings and I can confirm that I crash a lot less then before! Well I crashed after 10 minutes and now I never crashed. Weird.

Sadly no change for me.
Game crashes and kills the driver/amd software on launch (sometimes I can create a game but then it crashes on game start after creation), be it via steam or directly with a custom profile/all turned off via the amd software.

I found that I had less crash if I change my min frequency to 100 mhz less then the maximum in the driver settings.
The game doesn't push a lot my 6900 XT at 4k so it was running at 500 mhz ?! lol I had FPS issues before and now I'm fine. Just try it

Tried to do it and launch through the Radeon software. made me get a higher fps instead of 25 I get 60+ mid-game. sometimes I even reach 100 fps and no longer seems to be hard limited to 60 fps. I still, crash quite a bit. it seems like it has stopped to hang when you zoom in and out fast.

I followed the instructions in the top post and have been getting crashes upon viewing combat consistently. I am able to play indefinitely as long as i do not zoom in on combat. A new patch was released for the Radeon driver which i just installed. I got the same results to day, with the same error in crash report. The only improvement seems to be that i can get a few seconds of a battle to run, where as when I first encountered this issue on Friday, the crash was nearly instant. I've attached the session log, dxdiag, and most recent crash report. let me know if there is anything else you need.

I also have a 6900XT and mine also ticks at 500-800mhz while playing. How do you set a minimum frequency?
EDIT: nvm found it, set it to 2200 minimum and OMG it worked! stable 60fps instead of 33-40. Praise the Omnissiah!

Happy to help!
Btw if you are playing other game it will be more stable.
Normally game developper do something to help AMD GPU but in game like Diablo 2 Remastered I found better FPS with this little tricks in the Radeon Software hehe
I think Nvidia too can have better FPS but I can't prove it heh
Problem is this game doesn't push the graphic very hard for the texture I think ? so the GPU is idle for some reasons.
Well I'm not a technical expert for developping game so take it with a grain of salt
Maybe it can explain CTD because the GPU become unstable and the driver crash... anyways maybe it will help dev

Still experiencing a crash to desktop when viewing combat on 1.0.2.1 patch. I did notice that if the game is paused, it wont crash until the game is unpaused. The error log is showing different then before the 1.02.1, so I guess that's progress?

These AMD changes didn't have any affect for me good or bad. Each patch release has reduced the frequency and types of crashes, though. Day 1 I couldn't play for more than 10 minutes before a crash. Now, I can play for hours. I'm patient though. I know you guys are great Devs from my DW1 experience.

Well it's depend of your GPU

more recent one or a very big GPU of others generation will help.
Each system is unique.

Fullscreen or windows mode ?
I found that I don't have any crashes now in Fullscreen mode only.

I'm experiencing significant improvements following the steps in the current patch and have yet to experience a crash.
Using disablefixedsteprendering and fixing the 6800xt clock to ~2000mhz in the amd tuner has unlocked quite a bit of performance, ~150-200 fps in the early game and about 80-100fps in the late game. It would be nice however if the game could drive the card without my coaxing though....

Added some additional advice to the first post:
"Please also try this change: Wait for vertical Refresh option -"On unless Application specifies".
If the game does not launch on the first try, please try again a few times and see if anything changes."
Also, please try the new 1.0.2.2 update and let us know if it helps.
