How does a player know if he has enough resources to initiate a Research item just by looking at the Research Screen. Have I to write down the resource items and costs from this screen , then go to my Resource Screen to find if I have all the relevent resources in stock ? Or is there a simpler way that I have not noticed?

Pretty much. I just don't pay attention to it most of the time, because it's too tedious to deal with and typically I have the resources anyway.
