Well, updated to 1.0.1.9 from 1.0.1.6 (since 1.0.1.8 lost my keybindings) and sure enough, key bindings are all gone again. Also, just like 1.0.1.8, the game usually requires me to launch it twice as it simply gets to the first splash screen and stops loading. Splash screen disappears and it's like I never even tried to launch it as I'm not getting a visible crash. Sigh...back to 1.0.1.6 I guess.

Each update at this point unfortunately has to reset the game settings. Once we fix these critical issues, that will no longer happen.

Before you revert, could you please provide us more information per the troubleshooting FAQ, including crash logs? We won't be able to solve this without more information from those who are affected.

Also, when you say that on 1.0.1.9 "it does load on the second attempt" did the game work fine after that and if so why are you reverting?

FWIW others on the steam forum have the exact same issue....no keybindings and crash after the initial install of 1.0.1.8 and/or 1.0.1.9.

Yes game works on subsequent loadings after the initial crash after install.

I will update this thread with uploaded game files as requested.

Copying the GameSettings file from 1.0.1.6 seems to bring key bindings back to 1.0.1.9. No idea if it breaks anything else but the game was unplayable without key bindings imo.

If you're on steam just make sure to manually delete the "\steamapps\common\Distant Worlds 2" folder as changing between versions via the beta menu doesn't replace the GameSettings file.

So if you're on steam with 1.0.1.9 and key bindings are broken:

Select 1.0.1.6 by right clicking Distant Worlds 2 in Steam > Properties > Beta
Uninstall the game
Delete the Distant Worlds 2 folder in \steamapps\common\
Reinstall Distant Worlds 2 (legacy)
Copy GameSettings file from \steamapps\common\Distant Worlds 2\data to another location
Choose the latest 1.0.1.9 in the Stream Beta options and let it update
Overwrite the new GameSettings file with the one you copied

For non-steam users, I can confirm that if you are already using 1.0.1.8 or 1.0.1.9, merely reinstall the 1.0.1.6 patch, copy the gamesettings file from the data folder to a safe location, reinstall 1.0.1.9, backup your gamesettings file in the data folder in case it breaks something, copy your 1.0.1.6 gamesettings file into the data folder. Keymaps now work, but no idea what if anything else it might break. So far, so good for me.
